Location
Throughout the centuries, the city of Lille has developed around the Deûle River. Located in the Flanders Plain, the city has experienced numerous political influences and an equally diverse range of cultures, which are still evident in the facades of its historic heritage. Few cities can boast such architectural diversity, spanning from Flanders to France, Burgundy to Spain. Lille has established itself as an eclectic city, enriched by the exchanges it has witnessed and continues to experience. At times a hub of commerce and at others an industrial center (in the 19th and 20th centuries), Lille is now a city of services, business, and tourism.
